Intro to Bike
Basic Class
Whether new to biking or just your bike, this class is a great way to become familiar with the ins and outs of "serious" bicycling. From gear to gearing, this class covers everything you'll need to know to forge a long and healthy relationship with your Steel Steed. The standard course covers:
  • Proper shifting technique -- which gear for a given situation and how to get there.
  • Dress to impress -- be prepared for the weather, whatever it is.
  • Equipment -- from funny shoes to lights to wrenches, learn what it's all for.
  • Technique -- there's more to riding than just pumping your legs.
  • The Bike Itself -- how to check over your bike before and after a ride.
This class takes 1-2 hours and is limited to 3 people.

Road Side Repair
Basic Class
Every good bicyclist should know how to avoid being stranded by the most common kinds of parts failure. With a few simple tools and some basic know-how, anybody can gain the confidence to ride knowing they wont be stopped by flats or broken chains. We'll also teach you how to tell when you can reasonably fix it and when you should just call home. Learn how to:
  • Check your bike pre-ride
  • Fix a flat tire
  • Fix a broken chain
  • Deal with broken spokes
  • Make a minor adjustment to your shifting & brakes
  • Pack tools and parts appropriate to your bike, your skill, and your specific ride
This class takes 1.5-2.5 hours and is limited to 4 people.

Routine Maintenance
Basic Class
A clean bike is a happy bike -- more efficient, prettier, and longer lasting. This one-evening, 2-3 hour class covers:
  • Proper basic maintenance: 'The Secrets of the Pro Mechanics'
  • How to quickly and efficiently clean your bike
  • How to check your bike for wear
  • How to extend the life of your bicycles' components
  • How to perform simple adjustments on brakes and shifters
This class takes 1.5-2 hours and is limited to 3 people.

Getting Greasy!
Advanced Class
Ready for the next level of bike repair? Getting Greasy is the perfect way to gain a thorough knowledge of your bike -- how it works, how to clean it, and how to care for it. During this two evening class, you'll learn how to thoroughly clean your drive train and make various adjustments to the whole bike, including:
  • Basic alignment check (rear triangle and dropouts)
  • Remove and clean your chain
  • Hub bearing adjustments
  • Remove and clean your cranks and derailleurs
  • Bottom bracket adjustment
  • Thorough shifting adjustments
  • How to use several specific shop tools
This class takes 4-6 hours over two evenings and is limited to 2 people.

Although there are no prerequisites for taking this course, we have a recommendation: We recommend that people either take the 'Road Side Repair' class before the 'Getting Greasy!' class, or be very familiar with everything in the 'Road Side Repair' class.
The Overhaul Course
Advanced Class
This is it, the Ultimate Rodriguez Class. In it you'll learn how to perform a Rodriguez Seasonal Overhaul, the most comprehensive service we offer at the shop. This 6-hour course is the class for the person who has the skills that the 'Getting Greasy' course covers, but wants to learn everything there is to know about their bike! In this class you will strip your bike and completely overhaul it. The price includes new bearings for your hubs and headset and a new set of cables and housing. (Other parts extra.) Whew! Sounds like fun. Below are some of the things you'll learn in this extensive course:
  • How to completely rebuild your hubs
  • How to completely rebuild your bottom bracket
  • How to completely rebuild your head set
  • How to inspect your bearing surfaces for wear
  • How to use bicycle-specific tools
  • Fix a broken spoke
  • How to align your dropouts on the frame & fork
  • How to align your derailleur hanger
  • How to install & pre-stretch all the cables
This class takes 6-8 hours over two to three evenings and is limited to 2 people.

WARNING: THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE
Prerequisites for taking the overhaul course are:
If you are not comfortable with performing basic maintenance on your bicycle already, this class is too advanced. We recommend that people either take the 'Getting Greasy' class before the 'overhaul' class, or be very familiar with everything in those classes.

Don't see what you want? You can always call us and set up a class on practically anything! Prerequesites vary by topic, but some suggested classes are:
  • Shifter overhauls for Campagnolo shifters
  • Wheel building
  • Topic-specific bike technique classes -- touring, cyclocross, etc
  • Riding Classes -- get out on the road and learn some stuff!
